Executive Director (Non-Profit)

Position Summary

 

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the overall management and operation of the food shelf, ensuring that it effectively serves the community's needs. The ED is responsible for strategic leadership, staff management, financial oversight, operational excellence, fundraising and community engagement. The role includes management of a multi-staff organization, diversified funding streams, and a rapidly enlarging client base.

Key Responsibilities

 

1. Leadership and Management:

​​

  • Provide visionary leadership to the organization. Oversee BCFS policies, procedures and operations, recommending and implementing improvements as needed.  Ensure efficient and effective service delivery.

  • Supervise and support staff and volunteers, ensuring clarity of roles, high performance of staff and fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

  • Ensure the food shelf is stocked with adequate supplies and that food distribution is managed effectively.

 

2.  Strategic Planning and Board Relations:

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans that align with the organization's mission and goals.

  • Prepare Board agendas, reports and updates. Ensure Board meetings support effective governance and strategic decision-making.

  • Provide regular updates to the Board on organizational performance and key issues.

  • Facilitate the orientation and engagement of new Board members.

 

3. Financial Management and Resource Development:

  • Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the Board of Directors.

  • Develop and implement fundraising programs, including grant writing, donor development and stewardship, and community events. Oversee gift receipting and acknowledgement activities.

  • Ensure financial stability and accountability through sound financial practices.

 

4. Community Engagement:

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, representing it to the community, media, and other stakeholders. Engage Board members as appropriate to assist in making presentations to organizations they participate in.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, donors, and volunteers.

  • Advocate for the needs of the food shelf and its clients within the community.

Qualifications 

​​

  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience

  • Non-profit leadership preferred.

  • Strong organizational, financial management, and fundraising skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Passion for the mission of the food shelf and a commitment to serving the community.

​

Salary Range: $65,000-$80,000 per year, based on experience. Benefits include paid time off and 401k.​

​

The selected candidate will have a one week overlap with the current Executive Director.
