Hello, I'm Jennifer

We are excited to announce that Jennifer Aakre has been selected as the new Executive Director of the Bemidji Community Food Shelf!

​

Jennifer brings a rare mix of nonprofit leadership, budgeting, fundraising, and real-life experience with food insecurity. She grew up in her parents’ small-town grocery store, giving her a unique understanding of food, people, and community — a perfect match for our mission.

​

She also comes to us as a former science teacher with a background in environmental sciences, which shows up in her love of learning, teaching, and helping others grow. Jennifer is especially excited about the BCFS Farm and the chance to help grow fresh food for the families we serve.

​

Her leadership style is warm, approachable, and collaborative. She is highly organized, skilled at building strong relationships, and never hesitates to roll up her sleeves and jump in. Everyone who has worked with her describes her as dedicated, hands-on, and deeply committed to serving her community.

​

Jennifer also shared thoughtful ideas for growing community partnerships and finding new ways to support families during challenging times. Her vision and heart for this work inspired our entire Board of Directors and staff.

We are confident Jennifer will be a wonderful addition to BCFS, and we’re excited for this next chapter.

 

Jennifer is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of BCFS, managing staff, developing community partnerships, leading fundraising efforts, and coordinating with the BCFS Board of Directors to help advance the mission of the Food Shelf.
